Chama na Solução: youth engaged in violence prevention and response

The second edition of “Chama na Solução” took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, an initiative by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in partnership with the Center for Health Promotion (CEDAPS) and with the support of verase in developing strategies and facilitating creative processes.

Targeted at young people aged 14 to 24, the aim was to highlight the challenges faced by those in vulnerable situations, making the project particularly relevant for social education and public health. A total of 185 young people registered, of which 50 were selected from areas with the highest rates of rights violations and violence.

During a collaborative journey rich in expressions and desires for change, the young participants developed five intervention proposals to address the everyday violence perceived in their territories. They accessed thematic training and participated in debates and collective activities, expanding their knowledge about different forms of violence — especially physical, psychological, gender-based, sexual, domestic, online, and LGBTQIAP+.

The goal was not to hold the youth accountable for solving these issues but to listen to them and strengthen their perspectives on how to confront the violence affecting them, as well as to inspire public policies based on the solutions presented.
